WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
Wrinkles/fine lines, dark spots (hyperpigmentation), skin laxity, acne scars and stretch marks. It improves the overall texture of the skin by increasing the collagen to the surface of your skin giving it a youthful glow.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Your body reacts to the microscopic needle punctures by sending fibroblasts to create more collagen in the treated area. Basically, your skin is being tricked into thinking it’s been injured and starts to repair itself resulting in skin improvement.
COSMETIC NEEDLING AND MEDICAL NEEDLING – WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?
Cosmetic needling uses the shortest category of needles that range from 0.1 – 0.5mm (used by beauticians). This needle depth doesn’t penetrate deep enough to catalyse collagen production. It is usually done with a roller and this can tear the skin surface. However, it is quick to do, doesn’t require local anaesthetic and will improve the absorption of any creams or lotions you are applying.
Medical needling uses needles depths from 1-2.5mm and can only be done by a medical professional. This penetrates into the epidermis and will stimulate collagen production. Local anaesthetic cream is required.
You will experience redness, pin point bleeding and some swelling immediately after your procedure. Your skin should look and feel tighter and refreshed immediately. As long as your treatment has involved medical depth needling then your skin should start to increase its collagen production 48-72 hours after the procedure. Despite this increase, most people don’t see real noticeable results for 1-4 weeks after the first treatment and full results can take up to 2 months to appear.
Whilst several treatments are usually required, you’ll likely see scar tissue shrink and a reduction in dark spots and stretch marks after one treatment. You may also see improvement in the texture of your skin as it grows thicker and firmer. The new collagen that is produced will remain for a few years, making microneedling a treatment with excellent longevity. Of course the effects of aging and sun exposure will still take their toll and at some point you will likely seek future treatments as part of your regular skin
